The Church, The Eternal Purpose

Who’s a Big Boy?

Did you watch the video? In it, Richard Patterson is “the most brilliant financial mind of our generation”, but he has the body of a baby. His body does not properly express the fullness of his mind; it can’t. His body hasn’t developed, hasn’t grown up unto its full stature.

Remind you of anything? Saints, we have the most brilliant Mind, period. Christ is our Head, and we are His Body. But we haven’t grown up unto full stature yet. We’re still learning, still developing, still being transformed, still being completed and perfected. In the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, we have been raised up and seated with Him. In the earthly places, we’re still flailing our arms about, putting things in our mouth, curling our toes while trying to walk, and falling down over and over again.

Sure, it’s frustrating at times, and we can make Jesus look awfully foolish, but it’s also our natural and spiritual process. We’ve been born again. We’re not fully grown when we’re born. I mean, if we were, then Lawd have mercy on the mamas.

“…but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.” – Ephesians 4:15-16

Finally, we’ve got to allow the Head to do His part. We are not the Head, and we can’t perform the Head’s functions. We can only do our own part. The Head causes the growth. Our’s is not to worry about the growth. We let God handle that. When we lay down our efforts, our striving to grow up, then the Head can cause the growth. He can develop us at His pace. My arm can’t make itself grow, so why should I think I can make myself grow in regards to Christ’s Church? My arm does the bidding of my head. With regards to Christ’s Church, I only do the bidding of Him. Let us supply our part, as the Head gives us our portion, for the building up of His body in love.

Love the mental picture of us flailing about, putting things in our mouth! Gives me a whole different perspective.
