The Church

This is Not My Church

My wife and I are in training.  After having experienced just a taste of the glory and gore of organic body life, we knew we wanted to help others to experience it, too.  We saw what the Lord is after, and we wanted to help Him get that any way we could.  When we offered our services to the Lord, He made a few adjustments to our offer.  After we wrestled with Him and those adjustments, we humbly packed our house and moved clear across the country to take part in this training.  We are daily blown away by His vastness and capability to be the Head of His Body.

We are not after our church.  We are after His Church – His Bride, His Body, His Family, His House.  This is His purpose, and we have the privilege to come along for the ride.  And what a ride it is!

What kind of church is this?  Well, it’s unlike any I’ve ever been a part of.  The simplest thing I can tell you is this is not a church run by humans.  This isn’t my church; this isn’t our church; this isn’t your church.  This is Christ’s church.

This is Not My Church

For example:

I am not the pastor, be it senior, junior, associate, worship, youth, nor any other derivative of pastor you can name, because this is not my church.   I am not the elder, deacon, nor bishop, because this is not my church.  I am not the church apostle, evangelist, prophet, nor teacher, because this is not my church.  I am not the chairman of the church board, nor am I even on the church board, because there is no church board; this is not my church.  I hold no position in the church, because there are no positions to hold in the church; this is not my church.

This is Not Our Church

Now, more practically speaking with regards to what we’re doing out here in California, this is not our church.  We preach Christ and Him crucified, because this is not our church.  We preach the cross of Christ and His resurrection life, because this is not our church.  We preach the church’s glorious, mysterious identity in Christ, because this is not our church.  We practically equip saints to function under the Headship of Christ alone, because this is not our church.  Basically, during the planting season of a church, we’re working ourselves out of a job, because this is not our church.

This is Not Your Church

Let’s go a little deeper, and this may be where I lose some of you; this is not your church.  Are you concerned with your ministry or how you’re being fed in church?  This is not your church.  Are you concerned with how well the pastor preaches or how well the worship band sounds?  This is not your church.  Are you concerned with how much Bible study takes place or even how much the Bible is used in church?  This is not your church.  Are you concerned with the gifts of the Spirit or the five-fold ministry?  This is not your church.  Are you concerned with social justice or gay rights or abortion or voting republican or any other trendy hot topic?  This is not your church.  Are you concerned with the spiritual growth of your kids or how many church activities they have during the week?  This is not your church.  Are you concerned with anything that doesn’t begin and end with Jesus Christ and has Him as the fulcrum for all activity?  This is not your church.

This is HIS Church

If you’re still with me, let’s look at whose church it is:

There is no hierarchical form of leadership; this is His church.  There are no set boards, positions, nor committees; this is His church.  There is no annual church budget for salaries, ministries, and mission trips; this is His church.  There are no worship bands, choirs, youth or kids ministries, nor any other specialized ministries; this is His church.  There is no dedicated church building; this is His church.

There is every member functioning; this is His church.  There is discovering and displaying of Christ; this is His church.  There are seasons the church follows in His time; this is His church.  The Lord is more concerned with the heart of the worker than with the work itself; this is His church.  There is submitting one to another; this is His church.  There is love and grace, and there is pruning and discipline; this is His church.  There is laying down our preferences, desires, and wishdreams for the Lord’s purpose; this is His church.  There is freedom from everything BUT Christ; this is His church.  There is life and light; this is His church.  There is glory and gore; this is His church.  There is an embracing of the cross for the death of our soul life and the release of our spirit; this is His church.  He is the Head; He is the Body; He is the Way; He is the Truth; He is the Life; He is the Light; He is the Vine; He is the Good Shepherd; He is the Bread of Life; He is the Living Water; He is the ALL in the ever-loving all; THIS IS HIS CHURCH.  Christ and the church are ONE.

This is the Bride of Christ, the Body of Christ, the House of God, the Family of God, and the Temple of the Holy Spirit.

This. Is. His. Church.  And the Church. Is. Christ.

Amen.

“There is laying down our preferences,, desires and wishdreams for the Lord’s purpose…There is freedom from everything BUT Christ…” Wow, this is a powerful truth! Yes, HIS dreams and desires, not ours. It’s HIS church. Amen!

Everything seems to fall into place when everything comes under His headship. It’s almost as if it was designed that way. 😉 Thanks for sharing!

Just an update – Christ really got hold of me since my first comment. There’s been lots of wrestling, but it’s brought a death to my own preferences and wish-dreams about being part His corporate expression, in favor of whatever it is He desires for me. He’s done some very deep work. I’m experiencing that “freedom from everything but Christ” in many ways right now. Thank you, brother. This gave Him a wide-open door. I’m truly grateful.

What has been lost for so long and to so many is that the church is not of this world or at all earthly. The true church is spiritual. The church has left Christ Jesus outside of the door. He is the Church. He is the Head (Capstone), He is the Cornerstone and He is the ONLY Foundation. We the Body are the living stones. The revelation of Christ has been lost from much of the church. The revelation that God gave to Paul. ‘Christ in me the hope of glory,” when Paul also said it pleased the Father to reveal His Son in him.” That is the revelation we all need. Much of the church today knows only a historical Jesus. We know much about Him but KNOW Him little. He is a risen ascended Lord and stands on resurrection ground where the church should be also. These things the Lord showed me some years ago when I asked him to reveal the true church to me. 1) My people do not know Me. 2) The true church is spiritual and you have brought the church down and made it earthly. 3) Man has usurped the place of Christ in the church. In Revelation there is NO temple (building) except that the Father and His son are the Temple. Much of the organised, institutionalised church has lost the plot. Most of us were brought up in man made organisation with man given names that divide.”Open our eyes, Lord, we want to see Jesus.” Christ Jesus is to be central, supreme and utterly preeminent in ALL things.

Amen and Amen! Christ is the sun and the church is the moon. The moon reflects the glory of the sun, but only if it remains in its heavenly realm. We try to bring it down where it can no longer properly reflect the light and life of the sun. Beautiful revelation, sister. Thank you for sharing.
