Jesus Christ is the dwelling place of God.
Colossians 1:19 – All the fullness was pleased to dwell in Him.
Therefore, what is true of Christ is true of God’s house. What is the fullness of the House of God? You have only to look to Christ:
His family – God’s house is filled with His family.
Romans 8:29 – For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren;
His will – God’s house is filled with His will.
Ephesians 1:9-10 He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him (Christ) with a view to an administration suitable to the fullness of the times, that is, the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things on the earth.
His body – God’s house is filled with His body.
Colossians 2:9 – For in Him (Christ) all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form.
His image – God’s house is filled with His image.
Colossians 1:15 – He (Christ) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
His truth – God’s house is filled with His truth.
John 14:6 – Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through me.
His life – God’s house is filled with His life.
John 5:39-40 – You search the scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me; and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.
His judgment – God’s house is filled with His judgment.
John 5: 22-23 – For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son, so that all will honor the Son even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.
His name – God’s house is filled with His name.
Philippians 2:9 – For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name.
His nature – God’s house is filled with His nature.
Hebrews 1:3 – And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power.
His authority – God’s house is filled with His authority.
John 3:35 – The Father loves the Son and has given all things into His hand.
His rule – God’s house is filled with His rule.
Ephesians 1:22 – And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church.
His purpose – God’s house is filled with His purpose.
Colossians 1:16-18 – For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything.
His power and wisdom- God’s house is filled with His power and wisdom.
1 Corinthians 1:18, 22-25 – For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
His rest – God’s house is filled with His rest.
Hebrews 4:10 – For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His.
His word – God’s house is filled with His word.
Hebrews 1:1-2 – God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.
His reconciliation – God’s house is filled with His reconciliation.
Colossians 1:20 – and through Him (Christ) to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.
His pleasure – God’s house is filled with His pleasure.
Matthew 12:18 – “Behold, My Servant whom I have chosen; My Beloved in whom My soul is well-pleased; I will put My Spirit upon Him, and He shall proclaim justice to the Gentiles.
And much, much more as well. ALL THE FULLNESS.
What a Christ! What a House!
The church is the dwelling place of God because she is the increase of Christ.
1 Peter 2:4-5 – And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of God, you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For this is contained in Scripture: “Behold, I lay in Zion a choice stone, a precious corner stone, and he who believes in Him will not be disappointed.”
The church is God’s home because Christ is God’s home. She is one with Her Lord. The church is filled with everything listed above and much, much more because she is filled with Christ.
What a glorious home our God is building.
