Bride: SOS 4:16 “Awake, O north wind, And come, wind of the south; Make my garden breathe out fragrance, Let its spices be wafted abroad. May my beloved come into His garden And eat its choice fruits!”
Bridegroom: SOS 4:9 “You have made my heart beat faster, my sister, my bride; You have made my heart beat faster with a single glance of your eyes, With a single strand of your necklace.10“How beautiful is your love, my sister, my bride! How much better is your love than wine, And the fragrance of your oils Than all kinds of spices! 11“Your lips, my bride, drip honey; Honey and milk are under your tongue, And the fragrance of your garments is like the fragrance of Lebanon.
SOS 4:12 “A garden locked is my sister, my bride, A rock garden locked, a spring sealed up.13“Your shoots are an orchard of pomegranates With choice fruits, henna with nard plants,14Nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, With all the trees of frankincense, Myrrh and aloes, along with all the finest spices.
Beloved, as we have been reading this month’s blogs themed on the bridal image of the ecclesia, we find the bride is making herself ready (Rev 19:7). Through the wind of each and every sentence of each blog article, through the fragrant offering of each vessel’s articulation of a revelatory seeing of Christ, we find ourselves falling deeper and deeper in love with our Lord. It is a never ending adventure in Him as we together discover Him afresh each and every moment of each and every day. It’s the mystery being made known as His winds carry the fragrance of His perfumed bride into the corners of creation (SOS 4:16). Christ in y’all, the hope of glory (Col1:27). As we together pursue the deeper life of Christ, as we eat of His flesh and drink of His blood (John 6), she is making herself more and more ready for that day, the day of the Lord, the day of the marriage supper of the Lamb.
If you are finding yourself constantly encountering and thinking about our Christ all through the day, realize that He is doing a work within you. He is the one doing it. Not you. He does the work. You can no more make yourself ready than an ant can talk. But His beloved bride can, and she is, making herself ready. And you are in her. You are part of His bride. She makes herself ready through her perpetual turning to Him. Her lips drip of honey through the invested expression of His very Life flowing through her, through the open and free flowing Life that comes from deep within her very being, like honey and milk under her tongue. She is His very expression in the earth.
She is, as a garden, always looking upward to the sun. By His design (like a garden photosynthesizing, where the leaves soak up the light in order to synthesize the “heavenly” (CO2) gas molecule into hydrocarbons and oxygen), she reveals, articulates, and expresses her incarnate and power-packed heavenly Christ. And to His delight, this garden produces fruit for Him to eat and enjoy (SOS 4:12). She invites Him into His garden and she feeds Him (SOS 4:16). The various ecosystems of the earth are but an image and a picture of the True ecosystem, a spiritual garden who is His obsession, His delight: His bride. She is absolutely stunning to look at. He is breathless. His gaze is fixed upon her: His heart pounds with excitement (SOS 4:9). He is intoxicated with her love (SOS 4:10).
