Seeing Christ in Summer School

Now His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. And when He became twelve, they went up there according to the custom of the Feast; and as they were returning, after spending the full number of days, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. But His parents were unaware of it, but supposed Him to be in the caravan, and went a day’s journey; and they began looking for Him among their relatives and acquaintances. When they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem looking for Him. Then, after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard Him were amazed at His understanding and His answers. When they saw Him, they were astonished; and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You treated us this way? Behold, Your father and I have been anxiously looking for You.” And He said to them, “Why is it that you were looking for Me? Did you not know that I had to be in My Father’s house?” But they did not understand the statement which He had made to them. And He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and He continued in subjection to them; and His mother treasured all these things in her heart. And Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.

Luke 2:41-52 | NASB

This month, the community is blogging on the theme of “summer school.” After reading Luke 2:41-52 above, and knowing that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Heb 13:8), here is a question for you (Luke 2:46): “How can our omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent God be… ever growing, ever learning, ever increasing?” Hmmm. Isn’t this fundamentally the infinitely unfolding love dynamic between the Father and the Son in the eternals? The Son is ever learning about the Father, and the Father is ever learning about the Son. In the context of the eternal purpose (see other articles on the blog on this), the resonance of this dynamic constantly transmits through and into creation (both the invisible and visible realms) and is that same love flow that exists within ekklesia.  The enemy would like to disrupt that flow (see Friday the 13th), but there is no stopping it. Christ is risen. And He lives in you and me. We have been invited into that ever enlarging dance. The triune Community of the Godhead is the engine and the transmission of this ever-increasing love dynamic. And the local community of believers is both the visible and the invisible expression of:

So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.
Ephesians 2:19-22 | NASB

Jesus Christ Himself is ever growing, enlarging, increasing, and expanding:

He is the overflow, the strength and the All …Mighty
He is that pressed down, shaken together and running out all over
He is the expression and the expansion, the more than enough
He is the above all that we can ask or think, the quiet answer
He is the fishes and the loaves with baskets full left over
He is the mightier than the storm, the walking on water
He is the voluminous ocean and the tide, the waters in motion
He is the bulging net overflowing with fish, on the right hand side of the boat
He is the storehouse our provision, the victory in the fight
He is the yielding field of grain, the corn, the bumper crop
He is the multiplying cattle, the stock, and the flock
He is the flooding river of delight, and the flow from within
He is the gushing waters of refreshing, and the waves of provision
He is the light that reveals and the endless vision
He is the depth and height, the length and the width
He is the expansive sky and the clouds bursting water
He is the east and the west, the infinite horizon
He is the table, the food, the meat of plenty and the drink of abundance
He is satisfaction, the wine, the thirst and the delight
He is the still water, the green pasture, and the cup: He is the running over
He is our mansion, our home, our enlarging place of abiding
He is the safe place to hide, our strong refuge from any advancing storm
He is our perpetual soothing rest, our comfortable bed
He is our peaceful sleep, and our encouraging dream
He is our never-ending story, our everlasting life
He is the garden, plentiful fruit of the tree, and the roots we can’t see
He is our green leaves for healing, and ever-present air we breathe
He is our double portion, the oxygen (02) we need
He is our enlargement and the increase of the borders of our tent
He is the book of remembrance being written through our lives
He is our blessing that overtakes us, our streaming tears of joy
He is our fire of anticipation, our risen promised one
He is our burning fulfillment, our sustaining warm afterglow
He is the explosive fuel hidden in the sand, our mighty propulsive power
He is the beginning, the Genesis, the Big Bang and the ever-expanding universe
He is the end of the age, and the start of the new
He is the seventh day of rest and the eighth day of a new beginning
He is our overflowing gratitude and our continual thanksgiving
He is the fullness of creation and our All in All…

Your turn (Mal 3:16)….
