This is a guest post by a sister in Gainesville, FL, named Carrie Walters. I was so blessed by this that I asked her if I could share it here, and she has graciously allowed me to. I trust you will be blessed as well.
There is an illustration in Devern Fromke’s book, Ultimate Intention, about a Professor who uses a white sheet of paper to make a point. He draws two dots and a line that connects them together on the piece of paper in front of his class. Then he asks the class to explain what they see. All of the students comment on the line, the dots, or how the line and dots are connected. Finally, the Professor asks why none of them see the white sheet of paper that the dots and line are drawn on? The white sheet of paper is a representation of the Eternal Purpose that was in the heart of God before time began, and how believers have focused on the things contained within that purpose, but have missed the purpose itself. To put it another way, we’ve missed the forest for the trees.
Godhead in eternity past:
“God saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to the fall when we ate of the wrong tree, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us, IN Christ Jesus from before the foundation of the world.” 2 Timothy 1:9
Genesis is not the beginning of all things. It goes back to before “in the beginning.” Paul talks to us about a time that was before time by taking us to “before the foundations of the world” in order to see the “Eternal Purpose” and “Mystery” that was purposed IN Christ Jesus. The real questions are; what was God’s deep desire in the Great Before? What was the white sheet of paper in God’s heart BEFORE he began to create the universe?
God can see the end from the beginning. He completed all things before he begins-(Hebrews 4:3)the Lamb was slain before the foundation of the world(Rev 13:8), He chose us IN Christ BEFORE the creation of the world to be blameless and holy in His sight. In love, He predestined us to be adopted as His sons and daughters THROUGH Jesus Christ, in accordance with Christ’s good pleasure and will. (Eph 1:4-5)
This conversation is a pattern of a how the relationship between the Father and Son by way of the spirit takes place within the Godhead. The Godhead is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit all together. This is a relationship that will draw the blueprint for all creation and relationships. This is a relationship that is always flowing, giving, and receiving. It always lays down its interest for the other. It knows no SELFishness. This relationship between the Father and Son, which is made possible through the Spirit, in God’s view, is where all relationships will have their foundation. Like our relationship to the Father is through Jesus by the Spirit. This conversation is made possible through a shared life, by way of the spirit, it is always flowing and pouring back and fourth between the Father and Son. Just like breathing, inhaling then exhaling. Christ inhaling, taking in the life of the Father and then exhaling pouring it back into the Father. The Father is then inhaling the life of his Son and exhaling, pouring His life back into the Son. It just keeps going on and on and on and on. Now they want to share that with, in and through US. They want to expand, increase and share this life with us.
This is my version of the conversation between the Father and Son before the foundation of the world.:
Father: I have been thinking and I want to increase this beautiful fellowship we have and make our invisible life together, visible. Son, I want a bride for you so you can pour your love into her and she will be the very expression of YOU. I want to make a world that has its imprint through, in and by You. This world will be an expression of the beautiful masterpiece that you are to me. This creation will be how I see you expressed in all things. You will be the center of all things and all things will point to you. Everything will reflect and express you in order that we will be made visible and known.
Christ: And, Father, I want you to have children, a family, to share in all this love we have for each other. I want them to know that you love them just as you love me. I desire for them to experience and know the love that we have always been sharing freely with each other.
Father: Well then, we’ll need a home. It will be a place where we can all rest in the presence of one another just as you and I rest in the presence of each other. I want them to know this Rest for themselves. I want a place where we can eat and drink of one another all together just as we do now. Son I want you to be that home. Will you please be the home for your bride and my children? And I will place all my children within you and we’ll all dwell there together. Each of them will be an expression of you as well and they altogether will be your bride.
Christ: YES!!! Father I would be honored. I ask that when we create them, that they may all be one, just as you are IN me and I am IN you. May they also be one in US, so that when the time comes for us to complete our plan, the world will believe you sent me. I will give them the Glory that you have always given me. They will be one as we are one. I will be IN them as you are IN me. I will make them fully one with us, So that the world may know you sent me and that you love them just as you have loved me.
Father: That sounds like a glorious idea, Son. I will make everything in, through and by you. I will reveal all our invisible characteristics, eternal power and divine nature through you, my son. I love you so much I will pour my life out into a creation that will make visible what we share together.
We will need to hide them until it is time for our purpose to be brought to light. It will be a mystery, which will be hidden for ages within US; so that our manifold wisdom might be made known through a many membered body, to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenly places. (eph 3:9-11)
But Son there will be a cost. In order for this to come into fullness we will need to die for them, lay our lives down, so they may enter into oneness with us. Then we will have a people whom can know us and express us to the world. It will be a very gruesome, humiliating, and painful death. This death will disarm the rulers and authorities, and make a public display of them, and will triumph over them. (col 2:16). It will protect them from the evil one and he will no longer have control over our holy ones. This death and subsequent resurrection will seal our plan. This death will bring in the fullness of our plan and make it unreachable by the evil one. This death will make it possible for Us to enter into them and allow them to live by our life. It will make it possible for them to give us expression and know us intimately. It will be a mystery to all the heavens and earth until it is time to reveal our full plan.
Christ: Father, are sure there’s no other way for this to happen?
Father: No, my son there is no other way.
Christ: Then let me be the one to go! I will die for them! I will die so that our purpose can be realized on the earth. I will establish our family and home though my death. I lay my life down for you, Father, so they may know that you sent me and you love them. So they may know for themselves this magnificent relationship we share with each other.
(Christ willing to go is the lamb slain, laying down his life, before the foundation of the world for the purpose of the Father to be realized. No one made him lay down his life, he gave it freely.)
Father: Son you are so beautiful to me. Please know that when the time comes for you to leave heaven to enter space and time to take on flesh, I will be your life in all that you will do and experience on earth. The relationship we share will be brought to earth. And our relationship will continue uninterrupted with one another. Our love for each other will be made visible through you. I love you my son. We have finished everything now (Hebrews 4:3). Are we ready to begin?
Christ: Yes, Father I am willing and ready to do all that is needed to make this a reality.
Father: Then Let’s go and create man in our image.
In the beginning God…
