Away in a Manger Reborn

Ah, what a wonderful time of year. The election is over, the turkey is pardoned, and the jingle hop has begun. With so much going on this season, I elected to redo a beloved Christmas lullaby. To help us fix our eyes on the Reason for the season (yup, I went there), here’s Away in a Manger Reborn.

The Way in a manger
No crib for His bed
The King of the nations
Lay down His sweet head

The stars in the sky
Look down where He lay
The Light of the world
Asleep on the hay

The cattle are lowing
The Good Shepherd wakes
And the Lamb that was slain
The world’s sins He takes

We Abide in Thee, Jesus
You are the True Vine
The Branch, Root of Jesse
And the Tree of Life

Indwell us, Lord Jesus
Your life we express
Increase in Your fullness
As we become less

You’re Firstborn of creation
And Heir of all things
The Holy One of God
And the King of all Kings

Amen brother! I enjoy the rewriting of some of these songs to help bring more depth where the old Christmas songs lack in fullness!
